v Waikato, 4.9.10

Harbour 26, Waikato 21, HT score 8-18.

Point Scorers: R Niuia, M Graham, G Plesants-Tate Tries, D Ferreira 1 Con, 3 Pen.

As the team started to turn up at Silverdale Rugby Club you could see the tension in some of the boy's. This was to be the teams hardest test to date. Waikato has been an ominus opponent in past years.

The Harbour U20's after some inspiring words from a audio clip provided by the coaches, got into their business. The warm up was orcastrated well by our trainer Calvin Howarth under the watchful eye of the head coach Greg Aldous.

As the players headed onto the paddock ready to battle, the crowds let out a roar of pride in their team.

The first 5 minutes were hard and fast, Waikato dominated possession. First stoppage was due to Harbours No 8 Richard Haddon injuring his back in a ruck. Later he was ambulanced to Hospital. (After checks he will be fine.) The first two tries came in quick succession 10 minutes in, Waikato scored twice in 2 minutes. One by their right winger and the other by their fullback. Only one try was converted. 15 minutes later Harbour were caught off side Waikato converted the penalty 15 - 0. 19 minutes in Harbour where hard on attack, after a lineout won, the ball went to ground and Greg Pleasants-Tate out of nowhere stepped over the ruck with ball in hand and scored from 15 out. Dylan missed the conversion due to strong winds. That said 30 minutes in Harbour recieved a penalty for not releasing, Dylan lined the ball up from 35 out centre field. Into the wind he nailed it. 15-8. Waikato recieved another penalty 32 minutes in and converted it. Half time 18-8 Waikato.

The second half saw Harbour with the wind behind, at times it was gusting 25 knots. 5 minutes in saw Dylan take a penalty for offside by Waikato. Converted 18-11. Waikato were soon after awarded a penalty and they also converted 21-11. 11 minutes in second half saw Harbour driving forward with a great maul 20 out from their line, Ray Niuia took the ball from the back with assistance from some of the forwards ran a gap and over the try line to score, Dylan converted. 21-18. The game saw Harbour dominate the last part however Waikato did not lay down. 25 minutes in Waikato where penalised for slowing the ball down in the ruck, Dylan converted. 21-21. The last 15 minutes were taking its toll on Waikato as Harbours fitness started to show through. Matt Graham stole the ball from a ordinary Harbour line out that Waikato stole to score the last try and the last points of the game. 26-21 North Harbour. Players of mention where Ray Niuia, James Doyle and Jack Whetton. The U20 management would like to thank the many supporters at our games to date.  See you all at Silverdale next weekend to square up against (Northland).

v Bay of Plenty, 28.8.10

Harbour 30 Bay of Plenty 21, HT score 18-14.

Point Scorers: K Adams, T Blundell, R Mills Tries, D Ferreira 1 Try, 3 Con, 2 Pen.

Saturday saw Silverdale host N.H U20 vs Bay of Plenty. A good firm paddock greeted both teams and a pleasure after the week before at Counties. Harbour started slow out of the blocks which allowed BOP to score first from a darting run by Tutere Waenga (14) picking and going through some soft defence on Harbours line to score with nine minutes gone first half. Keanu Applby-Sue converted. Harbour was awarded a penalty 12 in however kicking into the wind was not favourable and Dylan Ferreira missed his first attempt of the day. 21min in BOP took our line on out wide and with some quick hands got the ball to Josh Walker who scored.  Again Keanu Applby-Sue converted with the wind behind him. 14-0 BOP. Harbour replied to the second try finally settling into our game plan and some good work in the lineout by Jack Whetton secured the ball which lead to Karyss Adams finding the tryline 25 min in. Try not converted. BOP were starting to get anxious and mistakes started appearing. BOP Hooker Vyon Smith was sent to the bin for 10 minutes. Dylan Ferreira converted the penalty. 7 minutes later BOP gave away another penalty so Dylan again converted. Harbour were starting to get into the game fully. On the stroke of half time through good patience and discipline Harbour got  it's second try through good line speed and support from loosies assisting Dylan Fereira across the chalk. Dylan converted his own try. Half time 18-14 Harbour.

The second half was a half of missed opportunities for Harbour with a lot of work done for little gain. Richard Mills scored 16 min into the second half by a good line break from Ray Daniels followed up by good back support. Dylan Converted. 20 minutes into the second half BOP had Harbour hard on defence on their line for about 5 minutes before BOP was awarded a scrum. A solid platform was created by BOP and a No 8 to half back pass saw Tehata Wilbore score for BOP. Nick Evenmy converted. With the score at 23-21 with over 15 minutes remaining the pressure was on to score next and we did, Tim Blundell intercepted a pass to run 35 metres to score under the posts. Dylan converted. With 8 minutes remaining BOP threw everything at Harbour. Good defence saw the boy's through to full time. 30-21 with a bonus point for 4 tries. Players of note this week were Jack Whetton, Matt Graham and James Doyle. Waikato next week at the Dale.

v Counties Manukau, 21.8.10

Harbour 26 Counties Manukau 17, HT score 20 - 10

Point Scorers: Karyss Adams 2 Tries, Dylan Ferreira 2 Con, 4 Pen.

After a shakey start to the build up to our first Competition game Vs Counties which included a very wet field also some quick organising pre-game due to facilities movement we got down to business. Three minutes into the game Dylan Ferriera landed Harbours first points because of ill disipline by Counties. Ten minutes later Counties replied with 3 points leveling the match.  Harbours first try came 17 minutes in from a great line break where Tim Blundell off loaded toKaryss Adams to score in the corner. Dylan converted. 22 min in another Penalty to Harbour allowed Dylan again to put the ball between the posts. 6 minutes later after some great offloading Karyss was feed another great ball to cruise through a hole in the Counties defence to score his second of the first half. Dylan converted. On the 40 minute mark Counties using their big forward pack rolled the maul down the park to eventually score there first try. it was converted by there 1st/5. Half time 20 points to 10 Harbour.

The second half saw Harbour get first points again with a penalty converted by Dylan. Counties swung the ball wide when the opportunity allowed. When they did the yards came, ten minutes in Counties scored from a good backs move. It was converted. The last points of the day came the way of Harbour when again Counties disipline let them down. Dylan converted the three points, the remainder of the game saw Harbour put up some great defence as Counties controlled the wet ball for at times 7 phases. Each time they looked dangerous they would make key errors. Key players for Harbour weere, Liam Thornley at tight head, Richard Mills at Fullback and William Barrett on the left wing.
