North Harbour Rugby was formed in 1985 and encompasses a geographical area that includes 12 rugby clubs and 18 secondary schools within the North Harbour region.

The purpose of the Head of Pathways Manager is;

  • Leadership of the performance Pathway programme with the responsibility of managing staff as per the organisational chart.
  • Leading community coaching role for wider training group and academy players to transition into high-performance and representative programmes.
  • Working closely with the CEO and Head Coach of the NPC team in driving the overall Strategy, Vision, and Purpose of NHRU.
  • You will be responsible for leading the Pathway Team which includes the Pathways Manager, Academy S&C Coaches, support staff (contractors to Programmes) the pathways programme encompasses, and everything other than High-Performance (NPC). This includes men's and women’s 7’s, FPC, Development, U19’s, Blues Cup, U18 A’s and B’s and U18 Girls.
  • Part of the role is supporting the identification, recruitment and development of coaches, Managers, and players in collaboration with the NPC Head Coach, Pathway Manager, who oversees both men’s and girls Academy and Community Rep teams.
  • You will require a strong rugby knowledge to ensure you can lead NHRU’s Pathway Strategy for Players, Coaches, and Managers: reinforcing the pathway strategy from U18s through to NPC.
  • To ensure there is a clear pathway and development for players, coaches, and managers in the NHRU region for both men’s and women's programmes in collaboration with the Blues Super Rugby franchise. 
  • As part of the role, you will lead Coach Development for identified Pathway Coaches in Premier men and women, 21’s and 85’s. Support HOD rep in delivery of DRC Level 2, Level 1 foundation, and rugby Smart.
  • Integration with High Performance, linking NPC Coaching staff to community Rugby to develop Club Players and Coaches.
  • The primary objective is to ensure there is alignment between High Performance (NPC) and the North Harbour Stakeholder Community Clubs.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

 

  • Overall leadership of the performance Pathway program with the responsibility of managing staff as per the organisational chart. Leading community coaching role for WTG group and academy players to transition into high-performance programs and campaigns lead by NPC and FPC with the opportunity for them to transition into full-time professional environments in rugby.
  • The position enables the game to be delivered and continues to develop in the North Harbour Region, by playing the key role in growing and developing our athletes and support staff with aspirations of high performance.
  • Work closely with the CEO and Head coach of the NPC team in driving the overall Strategy, Vision, and Purpose of NHRU.
  • Lead Pathways Team which includes the Pathways Manager, Academy S&C Coaches and support staff (contractors to Programmes).
  • Lead Representative Pathways Programme (everything other than High-Performance (NPC) This includes men and women’s 7’s, FPC, Development, U19’s, Blues Cup, U18’s A’s and B’s and U18 Girls.
  • Tasked with supporting the identification, recruitment and development of coaches, Managers and players in collaboration with the NPC Head Coach, Academy manager and Community Rep team.
  • Lead Pathway Strategy for Players, Coaches, and Managers: Design pathway strategy from U18s through to NPC. Design and develop pathways for players, coaches and managers in the NHRU region for both men’s and women's programmes. Collaborate with community youth pathways to ensure cohesion.
  • Coach Development lead for identified Pathway Coaches in Premier men and women, 21’s and 85’s. Support HOD rep in delivery of DRC Level 2, Level 1 foundation and rugby Smart.
  • Integration with High Performance, linking NPC Coaching staff to community Rugby to develop Club Players and Coaches. Ensure Alignment between High performance (NPC) and Club in terms of expectations and trends of the game.

  • Analyse the needs of the department ensuring roles fulfil the requirements of NHRU, staff training and upskilling are in place and when appropriate, recommend any restructuring and staff changes.
  • Lead process of employment of new, or replacement of current, staff as needed.
  • Liaise with other managers to ensure close and positive working relationships with all other NHRU departments, especially in joint operations/events/promotions.
  • Department meets KPI’s, which are reported in an appropriate fashion.

  • Oversee the campaign preparation & management - Blues Cup/Super Rugby 20’s/Northern Regions/Rep. programmes.

  • Promotion of academy and community players into High-performance teams (NPC) or other Representative teams.
  • Talent ID from within the region and 

    securing contractual obligations into the programme.

  • Collaboratively linking NPC Head Coach, NHRU Academy Manager and Blues for talent identification and retention within the region.

  • work collaboratively with the community team HOD and W&G’s Manager to identify talent and create aspirational pathways for female athletes.
  • Manage FPC Head coach and FPC Manager to ensure best practice campaign management is implemented.
  • Develop systems and processes to ensure the ongoing success of these programmes.
  • Grow the player pool In community rugby to assist the HP programme in having the best athletes to select for the FPC campaign.
  • Prepare athletes to be ready to transition from FPC into SR Aupiki.
